The 18-day cycling itinerary was designed for two Austrian guests who have just completed their journey of 1080 KM. Over 18 days, they explored the inner mountain areas as well as the east and west coastal lines of Hainan Island. Their adventure spanned beaches, tropical rainforests, quaint villages, and bustling towns.
They embarked on their journey independently, without a supporting car or cycling leader. Their recommendation was to have a support car for luggage and daily supplies, allowing them to ride road bikes since all the roads in Hainan are well-maintained.
Based on their feedback, we made slight modifications to the itinerary, particularly in areas where certain sections of the road lacked access to supplies.
We meticulously planned the routes and arranged accommodations for them, encompassing 517 biking hostels, budget hotels, and a serviced apartment for their last stop. This allowed them to experience the diverse landscapes of beaches, tropical rainforests, villages, and towns, while also connecting with local cyclists.
The outlined itinerary is designed for arrivals and departures in Sanya. Alternatively, we can organize tours that commence and conclude in Haikou, with a one-day break in Sanya. The journey will begin in Haikou, travel along the west coast to Sanya, include a day of leisure in Sanya, continue through the central mountain roads, and conclude back in Haikou.

The average daily cycling distance is about 67km, with a mix of shorter (40-60km) and longer (100-120km) days. It's designed for cyclists with good basic fitness who enjoy multi-day touring. The varied terrain—coastal flats, rolling hills, and mountain climbs—provides a balanced challenge. With our full support, you can enjoy the ride at your own sustainable pace.
Days like this take you through Hainan's central highlands. Expect beautiful, winding roads with significant climbs and descents. The road surfaces (like G224) are well-maintained. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking rainforest views and a real sense of accomplishment. Our support vehicle is always nearby for encouragement and assistance.
Our support vehicle handles all luggage transfers seamlessly. Each morning, you simply leave your main suitcase at the hotel. It will be safely transported and waiting for you at your next hotel room. You ride with only a small daypack containing ride essentials, making every climb and descent much more manageable.
We recommend and provide sturdy endurance road bikes or touring bikes with a comfortable geometry and wider gear ranges to handle both flats and climbs. They are well-suited to Hainan's well-paved roads. A professional bike fitting will be done at the start to ensure your comfort over the 18 days.
We employ a "no-drop" policy with a flexible riding style. Stronger riders can ride ahead to designated wait points (like scenic spots or village entries). The leader typically rides with the main group, and the support vehicle follows at the rear. We regroup regularly for breaks, meals, and at the day's destination. The focus is on shared experience, not speed.
Breakfast is included at the hotels. Lunches and dinners are opportunities to explore! Our bilingual leader will guide the group to local eateries and restaurants frequented by residents. You'll enjoy everything from fresh coastal seafood to hearty mountain dishes, experiencing the true flavor of Hainan.
Relax days in Sanya and Haikou are completely free for you to unwind, explore the city, or enjoy the beach at your own pace. Our leader will be available to provide recommendations for sightseeing, shopping, or dining. It's a valuable chance to recover and soak in the urban atmosphere.
We usually have breakfast and start riding by 8:00 AM. We cycle for 1.5-2 hours before a short refreshment break. A longer stop is made for lunch around midday. We aim to arrive at the day's hotel between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, leaving you time to rest, explore the town, or socialize with fellow riders.
Our support vehicle is stocked with ample water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks like fruit and energy bars. We schedule regular stops for refills. On remote stretches, we ensure everyone carries two water bottles. We also plan lunch stops in towns to enjoy substantial local meals for energy.
Accommodations range from comfortable hotels in cities like Sanya and Haikou to the best available local lodgings in smaller towns. All are selected for cleanliness, safety, and cyclist-friendly amenities (like secure bike storage). The variety itself is part of the immersive experience.
Pack versatile cycling clothing for warm coastal days and cooler mountain mornings (moisture-wicking jerseys, arm/leg warmers, a lightweight waterproof jacket). Essential accessories include high-SPF sunscreen, a good helmet, sunglasses, and cycling gloves. Also pack casual clothes, swimwear, and comfortable shoes for rest days.
Yes! Our local leader often connects with cycling enthusiasts along the route. Depending on timing and local events, there may be opportunities for casual rides or meet-ups with Hainan-based cyclists, offering a genuine cultural exchange on two wheels.
Our support vehicle carries a comprehensive tool kit and common spare parts. For major issues that cannot be fixed roadside, the vehicle can transport you and your bike to the nearest reputable bike shop. We have contacts along the route to ensure a quick solution with minimal disruption to your journey.
The east coast is more developed for tourism, featuring long sandy beaches, resort bays, and coconut palm groves. The west coast is more rustic and authentic, with fishing villages, salt pans, and dramatic volcanic rock coastlines. Experiencing both offers a complete picture of Hainan's diverse beauty.
On the final day, we assist with packing your bike (if it's a rental) and arrange a private transfer for you, your luggage, and the bike to Sanya Phoenix Airport. We ensure everything is handled smoothly so you can conclude your epic journey with ease and head home with great memories.
