The Dan Jia, often called "sea gypsies," are a community of Chinese fishermen who have traditionally lived on boats and floating houses for centuries. Their unique culture is built entirely around the sea, with customs, cuisine, and livelihoods deeply connected to fishing and maritime life.
We recommend light, comfortable clothing suitable for warm weather, such as shorts, t-shirts, and breathable fabrics. Don’t forget swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for beach time. Comfortable walking shoes or sandals are ideal for exploring the village paths
Yes, a fresh seafood lunch at a traditional floating restaurant is included. You can expect dishes made from locally caught fish, crab, shrimp, and other seafood, prepared in simple, flavorful Hainan-style cooking—often steamed, stir-fried, or served in light broths.
Yes, a private boat ride is included, allowing you to navigate the waterways between the floating houses. This is the best way to see the village layout, observe daily life on the water, and access the floating market and restaurant areas.
Yes, children often enjoy the vibrant sights and sounds of the local market. They can see different types of seafood, local fruits, and handicrafts. It’s a sensory-rich experience, but please keep children close as some areas near the water may not have barriers.
You’ll have approximately 1.5 to 2 hours at Clear Water Bay after the village visit. This allows ample time to swim, relax on the beach, take a walk along the shore, or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Clear Water Bay is a relatively pristine beach with basic facilities. You can expect public restrooms and outdoor showers. There may be small stalls selling drinks and snacks, but for more substantial meals, it’s best to rely on the included lunch or bring your own snacks.
You can observe daily life and may exchange smiles or simple greetings. For photos, always ask for permission before photographing individuals, especially close-ups. Respect their privacy and daily activities; your guide can help facilitate polite interactions.
The best time is during Hainan’s dry season, from October to April, when skies are clear, humidity is lower, and rainfall is minimal. This period offers pleasant temperatures and calm seas, ideal for both the village visit and beach time.
In case of severe weather that affects safety, especially for the boat ride, the tour may be rescheduled or modified. Light rain may not cancel the tour, but we will adjust activities for comfort. Your safety and experience are our priority, and we will communicate any changes promptly.
The standard package includes a Chinese-speaking driver. If you prefer an English-speaking guide for in-depth cultural explanations and interactions, this can be arranged for an additional fee. Please inquire at the time of booking to ensure availability.
The tour involves light to moderate activity. There will be some walking in the village (possibly on uneven paths), stepping on and off boats, and walking on sand at the beach. It’s suitable for most fitness levels, but please wear appropriate footwear and take breaks as needed.
It’s a good idea to bring some small Chinese Yuan (CNY) cash if you wish to purchase snacks, drinks, or small souvenirs from local vendors, as they may not accept credit cards or mobile payments. Your driver can help with small transactions if needed.
Yes, swimming is allowed and enjoyable at Clear Water Bay. However, as with any beach, please observe local conditions, swim within safe areas, and avoid swimming alone. There are no lifeguards on duty, so personal caution is advised.
You will be picked up directly from your Sanya hotel in a private vehicle at a pre-arranged time (usually in the morning). After the tour, you will be comfortably returned to your hotel. The total duration is approximately 6-7 hours door-to-door.
