Cultural Heritage & Thermal Bliss – Ethnic Village & Hot Springs Retreat
From Living Culture to Liquid Sanctuary
Binglanggu Li & Miao Cultural Park
More than a park, Binglanggu is a living cultural conservatory dedicated to preserving and showcasing the heritage of Hainan’s Li and Miao ethnic groups. Set within a stunning valley blanketed with thousands of areca (betel nut) palms, it features authentic replica villages, active artisan workshops, and community members who share their daily lives and traditions. Here, culture is not behind glass but is woven, sung, danced, and lived.
Nantian Hot Spring Resort
A sanctuary of wellness nestled in a lush tropical garden, Nantian offers a therapeutic escape with its renowned geothermal springs. The waters here are classified as medical-grade, uniquely rich in metasilicic acid, fluorine, and other minerals beneficial for skin, circulation, and relaxation. With dozens of themed pools ranging from floral and herbal infusions to coffee and coconut milk baths—all set in a serene landscape—it transforms the ancient practice of hydrotherapy into a modern, luxurious experience.
Cultural & Historical Significance
Binglanggu stands as a vital guardian of intangible cultural heritage. The Li people, recognized as Hainan’s earliest inhabitants, possess a rich culture including the intricate Li brocade weaving (a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage candidate), distinctive tattoos, and vibrant music like the suonahorn and wooden drum dances. The Miao people contribute their own unique embroidery, silverwork, and festivals. Binglanggu provides a crucial platform for these traditions to be practiced, taught, and passed on, offering visitors an authentic encounter rather than a staged performance.
Nantian Hot Spring represents the modern embrace of Hainan’s geothermal bounty. The island’s volcanic history has gifted it with numerous hot springs, long valued in Chinese culture for their healing properties. Nantian’s development into a premier resort symbolizes the fusion of this ancient wellness philosophy with contemporary leisure tourism, allowing visitors to partake in a ritual of relaxation that is deeply rooted in both nature and local tradition.
