Hainan’s first self-service tax refund terminal officially started operating at the MixC Shopping Mall in Haikou. Overseas shoppers report that the whole process—from scanning the code, entering the needed info, to getting the refund approved and paid out—takes only about three minutes.

During the 2026 Spring Festival holiday, Hainan saw a noticeable rise in international visitors and foreign card spending, which created a greater need for quick and easy tax refunds for overseas travelers. To respond to this demand, the Hainan Branch of Bank of Communications officially put Hainan’s first self-service tax refund terminal into operation at MixC Shopping Mall in Haikou, helping to enhance the Hainan Free Trade Port’s international services.

The terminal comes with multilingual interfaces in English, Russian, and Korean, making it quick and easy for overseas travelers to scan, verify, and enter their information. This allows refunds to be processed and paid out in as little as three minutes. The system streamlines the whole refund procedure, speeds up the process, and helps build a more international-friendly shopping and service environment.

A traveler from South Korea mentioned that the refund machine has a Korean interface that’s easy to use. Unlike in the past, there’s no need for translation or waiting in line for the refund process.

A representative from the Bank of Communications Hainan branch said they plan to keep improving their international financial services, bringing in more convenient options, and supporting the growth of the Hainan Free Trade Port with quality banking solutions.
