About this tour

About This Tour: Cycling the Wild West Coast of Hainan
Break away from the familiar tropical resort image and embark on a six-day cycling expedition that reveals Hainan’s untamed western shoreline—a world apart from the developed east. Here, majestic coastal vistas, hidden rainforest trails, and open roads await those seeking raw, unspoiled beauty.
This journey is designed for explorers on two wheels. Each day brings a new dimension of discovery: from traditional fishing harbors and volcanic rock formations to wind-swept shorelines lined with turbines, serene pastoral scenes, dramatic karst landscapes, and lush rainforest paths.
Leave the “seascape album” of the east behind and immerse yourself in the wild symphony of the west—where every pedal stroke challenges and changes what you thought you knew about Hainan.

Highlights

  • Discover the Untamed West: Explore Hainan’s wilder, less-developed coastline—a stark contrast to the tourist-filled east, where majestic vistas, quiet roads, and raw nature take center stage.
  • Six Days of Diverse Landscapes: Experience a rich tapestry of scenes—from fishing harbors and volcanic coasts to windmill-dotted shores, pastoral fields, karst formations, and hidden rainforest trails.
  • Ride Off the Beaten Path: Traverse smooth, open roads with minimal traffic, ideal for immersive cycling amid unspoiled surroundings.
  • A Symphony of Natural Wonders: Each day unfolds like a movement in a grand symphony—varied, rhythmic, and deeply connected to the elements.

Itinerary

Cyclists from all over gather in Haikou, meet at the station for bike fitting, and in the evening can head to the South Gate of Hainan University to sample local snacks.

Bus transfer to Zhongfei Wharf early in the morning to start the ride, perfectly avoiding city traffic. Cycle along the Lingao Tourist Highway, pass by Cape Lingao, and arrive at the hotel in Lingao.

Experience the highlight of the journey—the Volcanic Windmill Coast. The dark volcanic rocks starkly contrast with the towering white wind turbines, while mighty waves crash against the shore, painting a scene both desolate and magnificent.

Though this day covers a longer distance, the road conditions are excellent—smooth, wide, and gently graded. Ride along the most scenic stretch of the West Coast tourist highway and enjoy the sheer thrill of the open road.

First, encounter the Daguang Dam—Asia's longest earth dam—and ride alongside the Changhua River. Then, enter the tourist highway through the National Tropical Rainforest Park, where you can immerse yourself in a true “forest bath” beneath towering ancient trees.

On the final day of riding, head south along Provincial Highway 314 until you reach the ancient city of Yacheng in Sanya. Here, medals and certificates will be awarded, bringing the journey to a perfect conclusion.
