The Hainan Provincial Museum launched a special exhibition celebrating Lichun, the Start of Spring, on February 4th, in collaboration with the Tianjin and Hunan Museums.
Through a mix ofartifacts, history, and folk traditions, the exhibition brings to life the Chinese philosophy of living in harmony with nature,
which is at the heart of the 24 Solar Terms.

The opening ceremony featured traditional music and dance performances.

The 24 Solar Terms came from China’s old farming society. They helped people plan their work by the Earth’s natural cycles. Now, many see this system as a great invention.
It combines astronomy, weather science, farming, and well-being.
It’s the practical wisdom that has guided Chinese life for generations。
Through 189 unique artifacts, the exhibition invites you to follow the “dance” of the 24 Solar Terms through the year.
You can also step into immersive digital landscapes where ancient objects are revived with sound and imagery,
and enjoy a range of interactive installations and hands-on cultural experiences.

Many visitors really enjoyed this fresh and fun approach to learning about traditional Chinese culture. One younger guest said, “I was surprised—I didn’t think a traditional theme could feel so cool and engaging.” Older visitors, meanwhile,
found it meaningful to see this wisdom being passed on.
As one of them shared, “Sharing our heritage in a modern way like this is how you really reach young people. It just feels right.”
This special exhibition on the Solar Terms will be free to the public until May 31, 2026.
It’s the first exhibition held since the Hainan Free Trade Port began its own independent customs operations·
